Why can't indoor LED display be used outdoors?

Indoor LED displays cannot be used outdoors, primarily due to significant differences in design and performance parameters tailored to meet the requirements of different environmental conditions. Here is a detailed analysis of this issue:
I. Brightness Differences
Indoor LED Displays: The brightness requirement is relatively low, typically ranging from 800 to 2000 nits. This is because the indoor environment is relatively stable, with minimal light variations, and viewers are usually close to the screen. Excessive brightness can actually impair viewing comfort.
Outdoor LED Displays: The brightness requirement is very high, often exceeding 5000 nits and even reaching 8000 nits. This is to overcome the impact of strong sunlight and ensure that the screen remains clearly visible in outdoor environments.
Due to these significant differences in brightness requirements, the hardware of indoor LED displays (such as dynamic scanning circuits) cannot directly accommodate the high brightness demands of outdoor use.
II. Waterproof Performance
Indoor LED Displays: They do not require waterproofing or only need simple waterproof treatment. This is because the indoor environment is relatively stable, without direct exposure to sunlight or rain, and the waterproof performance requirements are lower.
Outdoor LED Displays: They have extremely high waterproof performance requirements. During production, strict waterproofing measures are taken for cables, enclosures, and other components to ensure stable operation of the screen in harsh outdoor weather conditions.
The waterproof performance of indoor LED displays cannot meet the requirements for outdoor use, which can easily lead to screen damage or malfunction.
III. Viewing Distance and Model
Indoor LED Displays: They require a closer viewing distance, with models typically being P3, P4, P5, P6, etc., featuring smaller pixel pitches to accommodate close-up viewing. Consequently, the area of indoor LED displays is generally small, usually within 15 square meters.
Outdoor LED Displays: They require a farther viewing distance, with models typically being P10, P16, P20, etc., featuring larger pixel pitches to reduce costs while meeting the needs of long-distance viewing. Therefore, the area of outdoor LED displays is larger, usually exceeding 30 square meters.
Due to these differences in viewing distance and model specifications, indoor LED displays cannot be directly used in outdoor environments, as it would affect the viewing experience.
IV. Other Factors
Protection Level: Outdoor LED displays must have a protection level of at least IP65 (dustproof and waterproof), with some even reaching IP68, to ensure that internal electronic components are protected from external environmental hazards. Indoor LED displays, on the other hand, have lower protection level requirements, typically IP43 or IP54.
Installation Method: Indoor LED displays offer more flexible installation options, such as wall-mounting, ceiling-mounting, or embedded installation. Outdoor LED displays, however, require more stable installation structures, often utilizing steel structures to withstand wind and other external forces.
Maintenance Convenience: Considering the uniqueness of outdoor environments, outdoor LED displays often adopt front or rear maintenance designs to facilitate quick replacement of damaged components. Indoor LED displays are relatively easier to maintain, but due to potentially compact installation locations, maintenance convenience may also need to be taken into consideration.
