Both the very popular LED screens and ordinary screens (such as liquid crystal display screens, LCDs, etc.) occupy important positions. I. Display Principle

 

Ordinary screens usually rely on a backlight to illuminate the liquid crystal panel to display images. Liquid crystal molecules change their alignment directions under the action of an electric field, thereby controlling the amount of light passing through to display pixel points with different colors and brightness. However, LED screens display images by directly emitting light through an array composed of light-emitting diodes. Each small LED bead can emit light independently, and by controlling the brightness and color combinations of these beads, a gorgeous picture can be presented. For example, in some large outdoor advertising screens, LED screens can still maintain a clear and bright display effect under strong sunlight during the day. This is due to their self-luminous property, while ordinary screens may have dim and unclear images under strong light.

II. Brightness and Contrast

 

LED screens have significant advantages in terms of brightness. They can reach a very high brightness level. For example, in some large outdoor display scenarios, such as the scoreboards in stadiums and the flight information display screens at airports, LED screens can easily meet the need for distant viewers to clearly watch under direct strong light. In contrast, ordinary screens have relatively lower brightness and poorer visibility in strong light environments. In terms of contrast, LED screens can present deeper blacks and more vivid colors, with a relatively high contrast and rich layering in the images. Due to the limitations of the backlight, ordinary screens cannot display pure black, have a relatively low contrast, and the overall image effect is slightly inferior.

III. Energy Consumption and Lifespan

 

In terms of energy consumption, LED screens are more energy-efficient. Especially when displaying large areas of black images, LED screens can directly turn off the beads in the corresponding areas to reduce power consumption. The backlight of ordinary screens is always in a working state, so the energy consumption is relatively high. In terms of service life, the light-emitting diodes of LED screens have a relatively long lifespan, generally reaching tens of thousands of hours or even longer, and the maintenance cost is low. As the usage time of ordinary screens increases, problems such as aging of the liquid crystal panel and color deviation may occur, and the backlight may also malfunction, so their lifespan is relatively short.

IV. Response Time and Refresh Rate

 

The response time of LED screens is extremely short, and they can quickly switch the content of the images. When displaying dynamic images, videos or in scenarios like high-speed gaming, there is almost no smearing phenomenon. For example, in the field of e-sports monitors, LED screens are deeply loved by players. The response time of ordinary screens is relatively long, and smearing is likely to occur when displaying rapidly changing images, which affects the visual experience. The refresh rate of LED screens can also be set very high, making the images smoother, while the refresh rate of ordinary screens is generally relatively low.
